Better Aid for the World We Want Campaign
Sri Lanka United Nations Friendship Organisation (SUNFO) promoted and coordinated Better Aids Campaign in Sri Lanka in October – November, 2011.
Parallel to the “International Day for Eradication of Poverty”, SUNFO and GCAP Sri Lanka lounged the “Better Aid for the World We Want” Campaign in a public event held at the National Museum Auditorium, Colombo, Sri Lanka on 16th October, 2011.
GCAP Sri Lanka Coordinator and SUNFO Director General Peace Ambassador Dr. Sir Deshapriya S. Wijetunge explained the gathering about the Better Aid Campaign for calling governments here civil society voices related to following asks at the 4th High Level meeting on Aid Effectiveness in Bussan in November 2011.
- Fully evaluate and deepen existing aid effectiveness commitments (Paris Declaration and Accra Agenda for Action)
- commit to a human rights based approach to development and development cooperation with gender equality, decent work and environmental sustainability at the centre
- Support CSOs as independent development actors in their own right, and commit to an enabling environment for their work in all countries
- Initiate fundamental reforms for fairer aid governance
Campaign designs of 5 Post Cards were brought to the stage by 5 Youth Leaders. Ms. Ratna Lanka Pushpakumari (Director – Child Skill Development Programme) spooked about the campaign of asking governments to ensure that citizens’ voices are heard in development and aid decisions. Over 250 Civil Society Leaders and activists participated for this event.
Peace Ambassador Dr. Sir Deshapriya S. Wijetunge (Director General of SUNFO and Better Aid Campaign Coordinator and GCAP Sri Lanka Coordinator), Adv. Thilina Panditaratha JPUM (SUNFO District Governor for Galle), Millennium Development Ambassador Mr.Thilak de Silva (GCAP-MDG Network), Mr. Malinda Anura (SUNFO Global understanding Library Project Coordinator) participated the Ceremony organized by Ms. Pradeepika Mendis with “Sirikatha” paper of Wijaya News Paper Company on 19th November 2011 at Galle Town Hall Auditorium with the participation of about 1,000 people. A team of SUNFO Youth Congress distributed Post Cards of Better Aid Campaign. Peace Ambassador Dr. Sir Deshapriya S. Wijetunge addressed the gathering by explaining Better Aid Campaign and SUNFO-GCAP activities.. A Team of SUNFO Youth Congress presented beautiful Cultural items for Better Aids.
Large number of SUNFO and GCAP Sri Lanka leaders involved in Post Card Campaign.Finally Post Cards were handed over to Sri Lanka Delegate to Busson Mrs. Malani Gamage – Director General Department of Foreign Aid and Budget Monitoring, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Central Bank Tower 4, Colombo1 on 25th November Friday by Peace Ambassador Dr. Sir Deshapriya S. Wijetunge, Director General SUNFO, Mr. Mahesh Nishshanka – Global Youth Coordinator, Mr. Tharindu Hassan and Mr. Rajith Kalpana.
